At the beginning of this year (2022) I set to completely rework my website (the one you are currently visiting). It used to be my portfolio website for many years, since 2011 I believe. I used to blog a bit now and then as you can see from some posts that are still up. I used to have a BlogSpot site as well, but now that is long gone.
At the end of last year (2021), I decided that it is time to completely refurbish the website! I completely redesigned it from the ground up to now house my web shop. I previously used Etsy, well I still am, but I always wanted a corner of the internet to be completely mine. With social media constantly changing and pushing it’s users in directions that may not be where their interests and strengths lie, I felt that it’s now more important than ever to build my own little virtual house, decorate it however I like and invite you to visit if you feel like you are enjoying what I’m creating in here.
It took me almost half a year to get it all set up.
My first focus was the webshop, which is now completely designed, tested, launched and operational. My second priority was the portfolio section, which I still want to keep, so that I can refer potential commercial clients to it (as you do with a portfolio). But! It is now summer and I’m feeling a bit more slow and less up to serious pursuits, so I decided to bring back the blog first.
Thinking about writing again, I’m feeling quite intimidated as it’s been a very long time since I wrote anything longer than an Instagram post, so I suspect it will take a ton of badly written posts to get into writing again. I used to write every day, but now I haven’t done it consistently in over 10 years! I do hope however that blogging will help me brush up on my writing a bit.
The reason why I want to get better at writing again is because I’ve been having a book idea (or few) that have been haunting me for a few years now. Although they keep constantly visiting my thoughts, they seem to be too shy to come out yet. Hopefully improving my writing skills will encourage them to come out, as I can no longer tolerate them keeping me up at night.
So what do I plan to write about?
I’d like to keep some room for my curiosity to take me wherever it likes, but as of the writing of this post I have several themes in mind.
First of all the topics I find myself dwelling on the most often are all the things related to living abroad (in Denmark in particular) and especially as a person in a creative profession. I have already channelled a lot of that inspiration into creating my Danish postcards, but there’s so much more where that came from. I’ve been wanting to do this for a very long time, but have always hesitated and held back, because it can be quite scary to be that open online, especially under one’s own name. There may be things that I change my mind about in the future, there may be negative things, there may be things I’m wrong about and these are all scary maybes, so even if I go into this with the best intentions, who knows where it will take me.
Secondly I’d like to share some simple pretty everyday life moments, because I just love collecting them. They will form the selfish part of my blog, because I want to keep those mostly for myself and I’m not sure whether they’ll serve anyone else. Hopefully others will find enjoyment in them too. These posts will mostly include photos and videos of wild flower meadows, forests in every season, spontaneous bike trips and walks, cosy sketching and glimpses of the dreamlife, as I see it of course.
How often will I post?
For the time being the most ambitious, yet somewhat realistic schedule I can imagine is posting once a week and if I can keep this up till the end of the year, I’d be very pleased with myself. If I don’t succeed in that I might have to rethink what I’m doing and why. If I do succeed, I’d aim to keep going. In any case I want this to be a fun creative outlet and not a chore.
And what about the portfolio?
I will be working simultaneously on bringing back the portfolio of course. It is currently in quite a messy state as some entries are done as a blog post instead of a portfolio project, so I mostly need to remake these and add some newer fresher projects. I also need to decide which projects to let go of, because there are some that no longer reflect my vision for the kind of work I want to do in the future.
So these are my current plans for this website. I’m excited to see where it goes and I hope you are too! If there are any topics regarding life in Denmark as a foreigner that you’d like to see my take on, please leave a comment below and I’ll consider making a post on that topic.
